Program Description

Event Details

Celebrate a world of poetry! Join us as we recognize and honor the poetic traditions of the many countries and world cultures represented among the diverse residents of Carnegie. Hear Carnegie residents read poems in languages like Arabic, Ukrainian, Hindi, and more, including English translations of each poem prepared by AddVerse Poesia!

Each reading will be accompanied by interpretive dance from the Sanskruti School of Indian Dance and Music. Artwork and original poetry by Carlynton students will be on display, and native-born Carnegie poet and Pitt professor Fred Shaw will also share his own work. International foods prepared by immigrant women will be available through ANSAR of Pittsburgh.

World Poetry Day was created by UNESCO in 1999 and is observed on March 21 annually.

Help support peace and understanding through poetry. Register today!
