Event Details
By the end of World War II, Nazi Germany had established over a thousand concentration camps, where millions of Jews, Communists, gay Germans, and others were incarcerated and eventually killed. Allied soldiers spent months liberating the prisoners of these camps following the end of the War. Some of those soldiers had come to Europe from the communities of Western Pennsylvania.
Tonight, local veteran and researcher Richard Murphy shares the harrowing but inspiring stories of the Pittsburgh-area World War II service members who helped liberate the Nazi concentration camps as the war ended. Richard's original research sheds light on the heroic acts and traumatic experiences of these service members.
