Program Description

Event Details

Acclaimed Pittsburgh author Sherrie Flick shares her journey from a Western Pennsylvania childhood through a decade of cross-country travel that led her to a new sense of home in Pittsburgh's South Side Slopes, where she has lived for twenty-five years. With humor, curiosity, and heart, she reflects on the homes that we find and create, and the ways that time transforms our homes around us.

Homing: Instincts of a Rust Belt Feminist powerfully explores the people, the history, and the unique culture of Western Pennsylvania, with thoughtful examinations of feminism, labor, and popular culture lending dimension and depth. One of the essays in Homing, “All in the Family: Waldo and His Ghosts,” was listed as notable in The Best American Essays 2023. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
